📷🥞 Nature Photo Walk with the Rockstar 10mm Fisheye Lens & Canon M6 Mark II Camera
Join me on a photo walk using the Canon EOS M6 Mark II paired with the ultra-compact Rockstar 10mm F8 fisheye lens. This manual-focus pancake lens offers a unique perspective, but it does take some effort to get the most out of it. I recorded this video back in 2022 and finally got around to editing it.
Look for the Rockstar 10mm f/8 lens through my links:
ebay: ebay.us/9E81nC
B&H: bhpho.to/4iicONi
Amazon: amzn.to/42h65OZ
As an affiliate of these shops, I earn from qualifying purchases! What I link isn't important but rather time from click, which is usually 24 hours.
Throughout the video, I go over how I set up the M6 Mark II to work better with a fully manual lens. I talk about using focus peaking, zooming in for more precise adjustments, and how the Canon controls help (or sometimes don't help) with this type of lens. I also show how the focus ring interacts with the light and sunbeams in interesting ways.
You’ll see how this setup performs in the field, the challenges of flare, and some thoughts on using this combo for vlogging. I discuss exposure settings, detail rendering, and what kinds of photos this lens is best suited for. Especially ultra-wide shots with lots of sky or scenery.
Overall, I was impressed with the results. It’s a quirky little lens, but it has its strengths.
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you think in the comments.

Hello! How to transfer videos to phone?
You'd probably have to buy a memory card reader for your phone. I haven't used this in years so I don't remember much about it and if it has any type of wireless app.
Hello sir may i know what adapter can be use for my canon 760D and Canon R50? Because my boss bought this sigma 6mm f/1.4 DC DN contemporary Lens ( for canon EF-M mount )
Not possible to use EF-M lenses on RF or EF/EF-S. The "flange distance" is shorter than either of them.
But it’s a dx lens, not ment for full frame!
My favorites Nikon lens : Nikon AF 70-210 mm f4-5.6 D . Beautiful !.
Damn you got lucky 37 bucks for for the camera plus film plus accessories that’s a bargain!
Photos don't show the customary high curve distortion usually associated with fish-eye. Photos taken with fish-eye tend to shout "fish-eye'. One thing about them is the lack of a lens hood. Nice of you to clean up that trash, Scott. Are you part of one of those volunteer groups that "adopt" an area?
The reason I had "fisheye" in the title is because when the lens was available it had that in the name. With the trash thing, I've done it a few times but on a whim. Usually I don't think to bring a bag. I can't remember the last time I recorded a video out in nature so it's been a while. This was from 2022. 👍

Single card slot,,, ill pass
The background music over dialogue is unnecessary and distracting.
Can I fit that on hero 13
They changed the battery for the 13, so probably not.
Hey it’s a fun little camera and I enjoy mine keep the film in the fridge whilst storing then let it warm up to room temperature before use. The blue green is probably from it being cold and you need to hide the photos in the dark for 15 minutes to fully develop. But it is good fun to play with
The Viltrox seems to sharpen the image.
Yeah, it effectively compresses a full-frame imaging circle into APS-C. Though at 0.71x so not completely.
Nice video. After the zoom-in focus, and half pressing the button, does the view goes back to normal? Sony cameras do that, which like. Would like to know what Z5 does for this step. Thanks.
@@blues12bar60 Half-press does nothing. It will jump back to the normal view if you fully press the shutter to take a photo.
They only pay about 50% of the price they sell it for!
I see, I haven't tried to calculate that. Convenience and ease of offloading gear definitely has a price. I consider what I do here a business, so I tend to value the time and potential hassle savings more than the extra cash I'd get. One positive of trying to find local buyers is maybe getting a friendship out of it. I still know a few guys I sold gear to many years ago. 😄 Though with eBay and selling/buying on forums I have had a few bad experiences, so that's the last option on my list. I used to consign gear a lot at a local camera shop until it closed. Has the benefit of low hassle with a bit more value than KEH/MPB, but the downside of not getting cash for a few months.
@ yeah, I’ve followed the gear that I sold to them, and the price doubles. I was surprised to see how fast it sells too! They have a very fast turnover rate with employees as well. I have been buying from them for years, with just a few bad experiences. It is very good to see the actual photos of the items!
Neewer gear is great, but over the past few years they’ve gotten as expensive as the competitive brands.
I guess with a more well known name comes higher prices. 🥲
Hello, can you make a video on how to turn on the flash? In my case it didn't work the flash even if i turn it on.
This manual page describes how to use the flash: helpguide.sony.net/gbmig/45333561/v1/en/contents/TP0000233987.html?search=Flash It looks like there is a button for flash that toggles through modes. I haven't used this camera for years and it was only an hour to record footage for the video, so I don't know how to use it.
Going to Dokomi 2025 as a photographer for the first time are you leaving your iso in auto a lot and just locking shutter and aperture or are you going full manual? I'm for sure gonna get nervous and don't wanna take to long per person because i don't want to waste their time.
Aperture priority with a minimum shutter speed to limit the chance of them or me moving to mess up the photo. The ISO is automatic based on those two. I might occasionally use EV compensation in really challenging lighting. The shutter speed depends on your preference, but I use a relatively high 1/200th minimum, but the downside is in ISO performance. I move around pretty quick so that high shutter speed limits the issue of accidental movements.
@@ScottJWaldron Thank you just super nervous is all 😅ill be using my 35mm f2 and 16-80mm f4 any advice on what to use where? was thinking 35mm indoors and 16-80mm outside.
@ That sounds like a good idea. 35mm feels like a happy medium that I'd use most of the time as long as you are happy with that field-of-view. If you do longer more extensive photo sets with cosplayers then you can explore the 16-80mm lens.
I'll also mention, image quality for me is secondary to getting the cosplayer to look as good as possible in the photo. So my positioning and their facial expression is important to me. I take multiple photos and usually get a full body plus more of a portrait style photo. Besides that I'm mostly concerned about trying to ask cosplayers when it won't inconvenience them (like not when they are eating, resting, have a prop or cosplay malfunction, rushing to somewhere, etc).
@ScottJWaldron I imagine you have face and eye tracking on? Or do you turn it off if your inside with the massive crowd?
How to charge 😢
Thank u
Hello sir, Did you edit those photos ?
This is an old video so I don't remember, but generally I output RAWs without a ton of editing for my videos.
nice colors. is it jpegs SOOC?
I use RAW mostly. Usually for videos I do minimal, if any, editing and export them as a jpeg either in 4k or full size depending on the video.
Got this camera for 30 euro's, and must say its a blast. I've combined it with a 85mm 1.4 Sigma lens (overkill). It's all about the glass.
Nice! 📷✨
Unless you really need the extra video features and improved AF, the Z6II is a more compelling option to update from the Z5... especially considering how you can still get it at the moment for clearance prices. Don't get me wrong, the Z5II is very nice - but just not the best bang-for-buck if you are already in the Z system.
Yeah, ultimately the same sensor will get people the same result.
How does it compare in picture quality to the sony kit lense? Street and landscape Thanks
Sorry, I don't have this lens anymore, so I can't do more testing with it. The lens seemed fine overall, but it was clearly an early e-mount lens and had limitations like a smaller area you can focus and generally autofocus was slower than a recent lens.
@ScottJWaldron thanks for the reply. I'm just getting into photography and it's so expensive. I'm trying to get the best value items whilst I build up my collection
@@mrlionrocks I've enjoyed used copies of the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and Sony 16-70mm f/4 on this camera. More expensive than this lens overall but both lenses are a lot more versatile.
@@ScottJWaldron thanks,I'll have a look
I got the Lumix s5 , I just can justify pay more than 1000 for a camera😅
Hey, if it works for you that's what matters! Camera prices are rough.
The Nikon Z5 was my entry into Nikon mirrorless. The Z5 II addresses all the issues I had with it, but I’ve replaced it with the Z6 III- beast of a camera. Doing it all over again, I’d get the Z5 II and use the money saved on a lens.
I would love two Nikon Z5 Mark 1 and two Nikon Z5 Mark 2 camera's
I'd probably try to use the mark 2 before getting the original. Maybe 3 of the new one instead? 🤔😄 I don't have that type of cash but yeah, it would be nice!

I am dead sick of ACDSee Ultimate. If you consider ACDSee, try out DigiKam first which operates on the file system in roughly the same way that ACDSee and which does not have some of the problems of ACDSee. I wanted an alternative to Lightroom, as LR 6 is hard to come by. Installation of ACDSee on Windows 11 - no problem. But since then, one feature after another does not work as it should. ACDSee is sensitive to permissions on files and folders on the drive where I keep my photos. This means that ”Custom Order” is greyed out. So I cannot drag and drop photos to arrange them into albums. I spent several hours, trying to get permissions on the NTFS drive right. No way to make ACDSee accept the result and allow Custom Order. Lightroom has never been bothered by such. I gave up on replacing Lightroom and instead tried to use ACDSee as a complement to Lightroom, especially its map feature. Again, this does not work according to instruction. ACDSee declares: ”You can also add map coordinates to files by dragging them directly onto the map and pressing the Save All button. ” Well, in ACDSee, I just see the traffic sign when I try to drag my photos onto the map. No pick up of coordinates. Just to check, I performed the same operation with DigiKam 8.6.0. It worked flawlessly with the same photos. So no, ACDSee is no competitor to Lightroom, even the older versions. As a complement to Lightroom for my (!) needs, it is not even up to DigiKam - a donation financed project. I expected a lot better from ACDSee. And no, I have not contacted ACDSee. If they bring out such a product, I lack patience to act as their test pilot.
I recently took my AW1 out of the closet to use again. Does anyone know if you still need the WU-1B adapter to move your photos from the camera to an android phone. They are still in the $100. range and don't want to purchase one if I don't need it. The one I have is not turning on.
It would need the WU-1B for wireless. You could try getting a USB cable with the correct connectors and see if it will transfer to a phone. If I'm remembering correctly, it has mini-B USB so you'd need male mini-B on one side and on the other side the male version of whatever your phone has (probably USB-C if it's newer). Another option is buying a SD card reader for your phone. They have them for phones (again, depends on your phone's USB port, probably USB-C or micro USB).
The lens feels really plastic and light. Quite disappoint me.

Wonder how soon tarrif increases will kick in. Does your z5 have a rangefinder option in manual focus mode? If so, have you used it much?
It has peaking and zoom in. With zoom you can apply a few different levels of zoom to custom buttons and it zooms in where the focus point is.

Help! I have this same camera and I believe my batteries have swelled up inside I haven’t used it since my daughter turned 17 she’s 22 now. Can it be fixed?
I'm no expert and don't do camera repair. I also only used this camera for an hour or two years ago. Here are a few general ideas on the problem: I'd doubt paying a repair shop to fix a Nikon B500 would be worth the expense. First look at the manual to make sure you are opening the battery door correctly. If you don't have the manual, you can download a digital PDF version of it from Nikon's website: downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/327/COOLPIX_B500.html Generally this camera took AA batteries, so once you get the battery door open then do some searching and look for videos on how to safely remove leaking AA batteries from electronics. As well as how to clean the damage they do to the terminals inside the battery compartment. Obviously, I'm going to assume you don't want to get the leaking material on your skin and especially eyes, so be careful. There are various types of AA batteries so whatever is coming out could be different. I wouldn't rely on just one guide you find on the subject.
Helpful, Thanks 👍👍
Does this wide angle lens work with a Canon Rebel T8i, otherwise known as a Canon EOS 850D? I just want to make sure they are compatible.
I've never used that specific camera, but this is an EF-S lens so I don't see why it wouldn't.
I have this lens in my bag and I have discovered it to be the most useless lens I have. Why Pentax ever chose it as a Kit lens is beyond me. Let me put it this way. If a 3 year old kid drew a picture and I compared it to a picture by this lens, I would chose the kids.
Hello I was wondering if you still own your canon g7x mark 3 and if so I'm wondering if you would be willing to sell it.

Hard to take this serious when you can’t even pronounce Nikon correctly and you clearly are not a photographer. Its very obvious

That metal is supposed to be a lock
Nice roundup, Scott. Not too suble pitch for cams to test.😊 The Sigma lacks a physical shutter? Did I hear that right? So, it's electronic shutter? Side mount extra tripod hole a good feature. Mainly smaller cams making a comeback, it appears.
Haha, yeah, screams of desperation in the form of a weak joke. 👏🤣 Those types of videos are a ton of work and tend to be flooded with options so not a huge deal. The main issue is not being able to access potential affiliate sales like my on-website Amazon reviews of equipment (old stuff stops being popular/sold). My viewership on there has dropped a lot now that my local camera shop I used to record at closed down. I don't have the viewership to get PR offerings from 1st party camera companies and I'm probably not especially brand safe compared to some like Petapixel, so it feels very unlikely I'll get access.
Yep, the BF is fully electronic shutter. Kinda why it feels over priced at $2k even though the case of the camera is a block of metal. www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/bf/ similar to the compact Lumix full-frame camera. Can't remember the name of that one.
